Car Scratch & Scuff Repair in Cambridge, MD

Read the depth. Then fix it.

Technician polishing a scratch out of a dark red car door at Eastern Auto Works in Cambridge, MD

Eastern Auto Works in Cambridge, MD, repairs car scratches by depth: clear-coat scratches are polished out, often the same day, and deeper scratches are refinished with color-matched paint and blended into the adjacent panels.

Parking-lot scrapes, key marks, shopping-cart scuffs and scratched bumpers — we fix them with the same paint systems and color matching we use on full collision work, so the repair disappears into the rest of the vehicle.

Three kinds of scratches.

  • Clear-coat scratch

Your fingernail glides over it. Machine polishing and paint correction usually remove it completely — often the same day, with no paint needed.

  • Color-coat scratch

Your nail catches slightly and you can see a color change. The area is sanded, sealed and refinished with color-matched paint, then blended.

  • Primer or metal scratch

You can see gray primer or bare metal. This needs prompt attention to stop rust — the panel is filled, primed, painted and clear-coated.

Clear coat, color or metal

The right fix for each depth.

Not every scratch needs paint. We start by reading how deep the damage goes: clear coat only, into the color, or down to primer and metal. That determines whether your car leaves the same day with a polished panel or needs proper refinishing.

When paint is required, the panel is sanded, sealed and sprayed with computer-matched paint, then blended into the surrounding panels and clear-coated so the color and gloss line up in daylight — not just under shop lights.

Light surface scratches that only affect the clear coat can often be buffed out for well under the cost of a repaint. Deeper scratches that reach primer or bare metal need filling, sealing and refinishing of the panel, which costs more. Every estimate is free — send photos and we will tell you which category yours falls into.

Only if it stays in the clear coat. A simple test: run a fingernail across the scratch. If your nail catches, the scratch is through the color and needs to be filled and refinished rather than polished.

Yes. We use computerized color matching with Axalta and Spies Hecker paint systems and blend into the adjacent panels so there is no visible edge — the same process and materials used for full collision refinishing.

Polish-only work is often done the same day. A panel that needs to be filled, primed, painted and cured usually takes two to three days.

For a single scratched panel, the repair cost is often close to or below a typical deductible, so many customers pay out of pocket. For keyed vehicles or vandalism across several panels, a comprehensive claim usually makes sense. We will give you the numbers so you can decide.
